The heart and soul of SWOL where we serve San Diego’s diverse immigrant communities within schools and tackle the two barriers that keep immigrant youth vulnerable – lack of information and guidance. After-school workshops educate immigrant youth on immigration policy and law, and connect them to resources from legal aid and health care to college and scholarships. Interactive presentations for the general underserved student population that take place within the classroom during or after school. Character topics are tailored to meet the needs of the group. Popular topics include positive choices, bullying, peer pressure, types of influences, common challenges and landmines and girls’ groups.
Our mission is to keep underserved immigrant youth from falling through the cracks. We bring resources and information to them and accompany them through struggles. Our mission is based on solidarity, and focused on empowering youth who are most marginalized, rejected and forgotten.
Our goal is to bring resources and information to all underserved immigrant youth in need in San Diego. We aim to treat the whole person by listening to each student and connecting them to resources; and by helping them continue their education, and become positive members of our communities.
“Your optimism is truly an inspiration to our students who feel sometimes that there is little to be optimistic about.” ~High School Advisory Teacher. Our program draws high praise for its ability to educate students on their options and improve prospects and attitudes. Read more about what others are saying.Immigrant Youth Program
